Governors

Who are school governors and what do they do?

School governors form the largest volunteer group in the United Kingdom.  Their role is strategic and they are responsible for:

  • developing a vision and strategy for the school
  • overseeing the financial performance of the school and making sure its money is well spent
  • holding the school leadership to account to ensure that every pupil has the best possible education

The headteacher is responsible for the operational aspects of a school.

Tealby School Governors

The instrument of governance states that the board shall consist of:

  • 4 co-opted governors (appointed by the board)
  • 1 staff governor (elected by staff)
  • 2 parent governors (elected by parents)
  • 1 headteacher
  • 1 Local Authority governor (nominated by the Local Authority and appointed by the board)

Please find below details of how our governing body is structured, including the names, categories, responsibilities and terms of office for each Governor.
