  • Forest school-fires, cooking and carving

    Thu 20 May 2021

Class 2 had chance to put their fire making skills to good use and cooked bacon for a sandwich. This was challenging for a start but everyone managed and enjoyed their sandwiches. After dinner, we carved pendants, making a variety of shapes. They made their own hole to thread the leather through. This is not easy as it can make the wood split but this group were experts. First forest school experience for some of Class 2, shelter building, fire making, knife skills, carving, spear making and eagle eye has been done over the last four weeks. All skills that will be built on in the future.

  • Forest School group 2

    Thu 20 May 2021

We went foraging today, looking for anything we could find that could be used as nourishment. The children learnt not to take anything they were unsure of and also the importance of only taking what we need. We found leaves from dandelion, primrose, nettle and rose bay willow herb.
We also cut Lime ready for making spears later in the day. Back at the parachute we cut or tore our foraged leaves and added water and got them on to boil.

After dinner, Maria taught us knife safety and the children all made their own spears. This isn’t as easy as it looks and they did very well.

The day finished with us trying to spear (cardboard) fish. Lots of learning today and lots of fun.
