  • Class 2’s Outdoor Learning

    Thu 31 Mar 2022

Class 2 have been busy making Spring cards for the last few weeks.  Following on from 9th March with our clay work, we painted them last week and put it all together on Wednesday.  We hope you love the final result as much as we did!

  • First Aid

    Wed 30 Mar 2022

Bad weather meant that first aid training was incorporated into this week’s after school, sports club. The children happily learnt the practical elements of first aid including applying bandages and slings to each other and also were hands on trying CPR and training defibrillators on dummies.

  • What makes a healthy heart?

    Fri 25 Mar 2022

This afternoon Class 3 have been researching what makes a healthy heart.
They have started to discover which foods, exercise and habits will keep us healthy and which won’t.

There was lots of discussion as they worked and it seems our class have a really good knowledge of how to stay healthy and fit.

The photos show just a few of the amazing posters that were produced today.

  • Bull roaring in the woods

    Thu 24 Mar 2022

Today we made bullroarers! Before we could start we had to go and saw down a tree. Once that was done, a bit of teamwork was needed for the group to carry the part we needed back to the parachute.
Matthew split the wood into pieces for us and after a knife safety recap, we set to work. First job was to make the hole at the top. This is never easy, but we all managed eventually. Carving wood is hard work. Some needed more help than others and after a while we had a break and the children went to play Eagle Eye. After dinner we got back to work, starting with the task of slicing and gutting some mackerel. We went back to our wood whittling, finished the shaping, got the string through and began bull roaring. For anyone who doesn’t know, this is an ancient form of communication( think Crocodile Dundee!). It makes a great sound once you get the hang of it.

Finally, those who wanted to got to try the mackerel. Lots came back for seconds…and thirds! A lovely end to Year 2’s time in the forest.

  • Growth Poster Challenge Winners

    Tue 22 Mar 2022

The giant had a really tough time judging our posters about growth… here are the winners.

  • The new fort is officially OPEN!

    Mon 21 Mar 2022
  • Fruit salad making

    Fri 18 Mar 2022

Class 1 made their own fruit salad carefully cutting the fruit.

All of them enjoyed eating their creations for snack time.

  • Worm finding mission!

    Fri 18 Mar 2022

The Reception children’s task was to find as many different types of worms they could so that we could identify which ones they were and also so we could use our measuring skills to see which one was the longest. The children enjoyed trying to find the worms hiding places and after we had looked at them and measured them we returned them gently back to their homes.

  • Creating games

    Fri 18 Mar 2022

Class 3 were tasked with creating some games for an outdoor gym to be created on the field.
The games had to be suitable for classes 1 and 2 to play as they would be joking us during the afternoon.
Class 3 rose to the challenge and devised a huge variety of activities, collecting their own equipment, making their own instructions and rules.
Once they had tested everything and checked they were ready, they set up on the field so that they were ready to go.

    Great teamwork Class 3.

  • See how they grow…

    Fri 18 Mar 2022 J Nicholls

The children in Class 3 were asked the question ‘Do all body parts grow at the same rate?’ as part of our Science Week Growth project.

Lots of discussion, along with measuring, calculating ages in days and teamwork followed. Great fun with lots of laughter and chat in the classroom.

The children all had to remember to use centimetres not inches, learn how to measure accurately, realising tape measures sometimes aren’t as long as the children themselves ( it turned out most of the staff didn’t have that problem, much to the children’s delight!), devise a chart for temporary recording and then log their results independently on Mrs Haslam’s computer.

They were interested to learn their own height was about the same as their arm span. A lively morning’s work
