  • Hearty fun in Class 3

    Fri 25 Feb 2022 J Nicholls

As part of our Ancient Egypt project work, Class 3 today investigated the heart. The Ancient Egyptians didn’t believe the heart was important enough to keep and store in a canopic jar. We needed to discover whether they had got that right.

The children had chance to investigate the heart fully, and kitted out in full science gear, they dissected and probed.
Lots of discussion during the task, questions asked and answered. We found where the ‘heartstrings’ are and a few people even tugged on them!

  • Tealby Then and Now

    Fri 25 Feb 2022

Class 1 walked around the village to see if we could find where the old photographs we had of some of the buildings and places in Tealby had been taken and if it looked the same as the past or if they looked different today.
We took our own photographs to compare.

  • Signs of Spring

    Wed 23 Feb 2022

Class 2 are starting a little project that will last for this half term( it’s a surprise so can’t say more than that!) so we went for a walk to find some materials with texture. On our way we looked for signs of Spring. We found lots of buds on hedges and trees, daffodils coming into flower and signs of blossom. It’s on its way!

  • Messy masks

    Tue 22 Feb 2022

The children of Class 3 started on a project to make their own Egyptian style death masks.

After designing their masks, they set to work, using cardboard, masks, balloons and very messy modroc. Lots of hard work and fun and the masks are part made.

    Next instalment next week!

  • Florence Nightingale play

    Sat 12 Feb 2022

Class 1 have been working on creating a Florence Nightingale inspired drama piece.

  • Outdoor maths

    Sat 12 Feb 2022

Reception have been working hard to develop their mathematical learning. The children showed excellent problem solving and number skills.

  • Mummifying tomatoes

    Fri 11 Feb 2022 J Nicholls

After our mummification of tomatoes in natron 2 weeks ago, the children in Class 3 predicted how their tomatoes may look now. The predictions included the tomatoes being wrinkly, mushy, soggy or dry. When the children opened up the ‘sarcophagus’, they expected an unpleasant smell and all seemed surprised that there was none.
The children noticed how the tomato skin had shrunk, shrivelled or dried and were interested to see that the tomatoes were now smaller.

They were rewrapped and sealed ready to be observed again in 2 weeks time. Predictions have already been made by the children as they worked at re wrapping. We will see if they are right!

  • Big birdwatch

    Fri 11 Feb 2022 J Nicholls

During this half term, class2 have been preparing for the Big Birdwatch run by the RSPB. To get ready, each week we made a different sort of bird feeder to encourage the birds in. These include fruit garlands, peanut butter and seeds and fat balls. We had a variety of birds visit the school grounds and on our hours birdwatch we saw, pigeons, crows, jackdaws, long tailed tits, blackbirds and sparrows. We have also learnt about habitats and investigated them and then drew them.
A very enjoyable project and all of our findings and drawings will be submitted to the RSPB.

  • Forest school

    Fri 11 Feb 2022 JNicholls

During this half term Y3 have spent time in the woods. It has been really cold some weeks but the children have got to work without complaint. Over the 4 weeks the children have built a really sturdy shelter, learnt how to light and build fires, have learnt knife skills that they have safely put into practice making feather sticks and pendants. We also dug clay and made clay beads which were left to dry for one week before being fired the following week. This was a brand new, untried project that was really successful so I’m pleased we were the first. We learnt how to skin and gut a rabbit showing ultimate respect to the animal, we then cooked it and all of the children had a try.

Matthew and Maria commented how sensible and mature this group have been and Mrs Smith and I agree.

  • Watercolours

    Thu 10 Feb 2022 J Nicholls

For the last week of the forest school group sessions we went onto to the field to create some watercolour paintings of our outdoor area. The children commented on how they felt calm and they all worked quietly, complimenting each other on their artwork. They created some lovely pieces of work.
