  • Forest school Y5

    Thu 23 Sep 2021

A busy day at forest school saw the children in Y5 making their own shelters. They had a time limit of just over an hour and they were told it had to be big enough for all involved to lay in. This was quite an ask but the children rose to the challenge. We may finish these over the next few weeks but there is a busy programme of work coming up. Fire making has moved on for this experienced bunch and today we learnt about finding dry tinder to get our fires going, not the usual sticks . We went hunting and we tried out pine needles, pine cones, dry grass, dead wood and various types of bark. Using char cloth and their tinder, all of the group successfully made fire. Well done Y5. You worked hard today

  • Shinrin Yoku class 2&3

    Wed 22 Sep 2021

A little chat about all of the things trees give us while we sat in the shade and munched on apples then a walk around the park. The children were encouraged to think about their surroundings, taking in what they could see, hear, smell and touch. We will do similar in a few weeks to see what changes have happened. At the end of our walk, a bit of leaf throwing replicating what we did last week in our relaxation exercise.

  • Seed bombs

    Thu 16 Sep 2021

Year 5 spent some time discussing plants and harvesting seeds from this years seed heads. They were all interested to see how many seeds came from one poppy head! We got seeds from poppies, Nigella, Hollyhocks, Aqualegia and various grasses. We also used some unknown plants found in Class 1 outdoor area. A bit of fun squelching clay, compost and water together, before mixing in our seeds and we all made some seed bombs ready to throw on a bit of bare ground when it’s damp in Autumn.
