Find out what has been happening in school this week.
Year 1 had their first ever session of forest school this week, and we were very excited!
After meeting Matthew and Maria, having a safety talk and exploring the demonstration shelters, we got to work on building our own.
We found a suitable place and decided a lean to shelter would be just the thing for us to build. It was hard work, clearing the site, collecting sticks and placing them in the correct place. There were calls of “is it lunch time yet?” from around 9.40am but after a lot of team work and help we got a great shelter made. After lunch, we finished the shelter off by covering it with leaves then went on to our first attempts at fire lighting. The children practiced and tried with varying degrees of success, but by the end of a very busy day, everyone had succeeded in lighting cotton wool.
Next week we will be making proper fires amongst other things. I, for one can’t wait!
As part of our Shinrin yoku we have been practising our milkshake breathing - with the bonus of being able to drink our chocolate milkshakes at the end!
As part of of our new project for this term, the children have been researching festivals this week.
Everyone’s favourite is Day of the Dead and today skeleton masks were created.
The colours, styles and designs were very Mexican and there was a buzz in the air in Class 3.
Thank you to those of you who were able to join us for our Community Garden morning.
We weeded our raised beds, planted seeds and cleared up our outdoor area!
